Best Android options from Rs 5,000 to Rs 40,000
You can get a big screen Android phone for as less as Rs 5,000 all the way up to Rs 40,000. From within this huge range of devices, choosing can be difficult. ET reviews and compares many of the different options you have across varying price points:

BIG SCREEN HEAVY WEIGHTS

Huawei Ascend Mate

Price: Rs 24,900

Huawei’s Ascend Mate can be summed up very quickly: ‘a big, bright screen, excellent performance and sturdy construction for not a lot of money’. The 6.1-inch screen may put it dangerously close to tablet territory, but the device certainly ticks all the right boxes in terms of specifications. Camera quality is good under most conditions and the giant 4,050mAh battery easily puts the battery life into the 2 to 3 day category.

LG Optimus G Pro

Price: Rs 38,900

At first glance, the new G Pro doesn’t seem to mess with the phablet formula. Not everyone was a fan of the shiny, glossy plastic exterior, but turn it on and the dazzling full HD, 5.5-inch screen forgives all follies. It doesn’t come with a pressure sensitive stylus but offers loads of software enhancements. Of special mention is the responsive Quick Remote app which effectively turns the device into a universal remote control for any IR controlled gadget/appliance.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Price: Rs 37,500

The veteran of the group, the Note 2 still holds its own amongst the crop of new smartphones, largely due to the rock-solid performance, great camera, the huge swathe of third-party accessories and the excellent pressure-sensitive stylus that it comes with. Thanks to a recent price drop and several buy-back offers/EMI schemes, the Note 2 should be near the top of your list when you want a smart, functional and powerful big-screen smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy Mega (5.8 & 6.3)

MEGA 5.8 Price: Rs 25,100

MEGA 6.3 Price: Rs 31,490

The Mega range is Samsung’s effort to bring in large screens at lower price points. However, the lower price also means that many corners have been cut in comparison to the Note 2 – primarily, the screen resolution and processing power. You could very easily mistake a Mega for a Note (and this family resemblance is intentional), but the device is named differently so as to not dilute the popular and premium Note.

Lenovo K900

Price: Rs 27,900

The K900 is hands-down, the most gorgeous device on this page. It has a delicately designed, brushed aluminium finish that gleams in the light. It’s amazingly slim (6.9mm) and lightweight (162 grams), has a great screen and excellent performance from the Atom-based 2.0Ghz dual core Intel processor. But it’s also huge and won’t be comfortable for most people.

TABLETS WITH CALLING

Asus Fonepad

Price: Rs 15,999

The Fonepad is highly recommended — you get fantastic build quality, a high quality 7-inch display (1280 x 800 pixels) and it is one of the few tablets powered by an Intel Atom processor. Other specifications include 1GB RAM, 8GB storage (expandable) and a 4,270mAh battery. The only issue is that it does not have USB host support like many other tablets in this price range.

Ice Xtreme Pro

Price: Rs 9,999

If you are looking for a dual SIM tablet with 3G connectivity in a budget, take a look at the Ice Xtreme Pro. It has a 7-inch touchscreen (1024 x 600 pixels), 1Ghz dual core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage (expandable). Additionally, the Pro has a unique matte blue finish (it’s the official tablet of the Rajasthan Royals IPL team).

Simmtronics Xpad

Price: Rs 5,999

The Xpad is the cheapest 7-inch tablet available today with support for voice calls. It is powered by a 1Ghz processor, 512MB RAM and has 4GB storage (expandable). The tablet has a earpiece and built-in microphone so you don’t need to connect a Bluetooth headset or use the loud speaker for calls. The catch is that it only supports 2G data connectivity.

Samsung Galaxy Note 510

Price: Rs 30,900

The Note 510 is one of the most powerful Android tablets around. It has an 8-inch display, runs a 1.6Ghz quad core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage (expandable) and has a 4,600mAh battery. You get all the Galaxy features like pop up play, multiwindow and so on along with the pressure sensitivity stylus. The only thing we didn’t like is the glossy, all-plastic construction.
