BenQ bets big on projector market in India

IT products manufacturer BenQ is is targeting education and enterprise sectors to push further the sales of projectors in the country.

NEW DELHI: IT products manufacturer BenQ is is targeting education and enterprise sectors to push further the sales of projectors in the country.

"Projectors are one of the fastest growing product lines in India with the booming education market. Expected projector market size is of 300,000 units in 2011 and will be growing to 500,000 units in 2012," BenQ India Country Head and General Manager Rajeev Singh said.

The eduction sector is the biggest driver for the projector segment, Singh said. "We have very high focus on education segment. The majority of BenQ's sales comes from the education sector."

The company is also betting on the rise in demand for projectors from the enterprise segment to push the sales.

"In the first half of the current year, we have sold 20,000 units," Singh said, adding that, "Forty per cent of our India revenue comes from the projector business."

He did not divulge any revenue numbers. In addition, LCD monitors contribute 40 per cent to the company's business, with the remaining 20 per cent coming from LCS TVs and digital cameras.

According to the FutureSource Consulting, the company has clinched the top spot in the projector category with over 20 per cent of market share and 26.5 pr cent growth rate in the April-June period on quarter-on-quarter basis.

Other players operating in the Indian projector market are Epson, Sharp, Sanyo and Hitachi.
