Apple may ship tablet device in March: Report

NEW YORK: Apple is set to unveil its much awaited tablet PC later this month and the company is likely to ship the product in March, says a media report.

Attributing to people briefed by the company, The Wall Street Journal said, Apple will unveil a new multimedia tablet device later this month but is not planning to ship the product until March.

The report further said the shipping date of the device has not been finalised and could still change.

The new device would come with a touchscreen, sized about 10-11 inches and the company is working on two different finishes for the tablet, the report said.

The tablet is expected to be a multimedia device that would let people watch movies and television shows, play games, surf the Internet and read electronic books and newspapers.

Analyst believe the tablet would be priced at about $1,000, the daily noted.

Last month, British daily, The Financial Times reported that Apple had reserved a location in San Francisco on January 26 for the possible launch of a tablet.

Reportedly, Apple has already made deals with service providers to deliver content to the device. Apple's acquisition of streaming music provider Lala.com in December has also been linked to the tablet PC.
