Android-based phone prices to dip below Rs 5,000 by March'11

Zen Mobile said prices of android-based mobile phones could come down by March this year.

KOLKATA: Zen Mobile today said prices of android-based mobile phones could come down by March this year.

"There are indications that android-based phones will come to below Rs 5,000 by March this year and then we are planning to launch the product in this category," Zen Mobile MD Deepesh Gupta said here today.

Gupta said the there would be lot of demand for android-based phones in the country, but they would not be a mass product unless the price was below Rs 5,000.

Currently, android phones are being sold at between Rs 6,500 and Rs 8,000.

Meanwhile, Zen plans to foray into Africa and Sri Lanka next month.

"We plan to take the brand to Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh," Gupta said.

The company claimed it sold 2.75 lakh to 3 lakh mobile phones per month across the country.
