Amazon India could launch Kindle Unlimited starting at Rs 199 per month

Kindle Unlimited was first unveiled in July last year as a way to give users unlimited access to books and audiobooks with a monthly fee. This service was priced at $9.99 per month or about Rs 660. A new report from an Indian source suggests that this service could be launched in India through Amazon India.

It is further believed that the service will be priced at Rs 199 per month to attract a wide range of customers, which could be an excellent ploy if there's any truth to this report. We've seen how companies have significantly reduced subscription charges for their services in India compared to a country like the US ( Apple Music is a fine example).

A service like Kindle Unlimited makes sense for readers who don't carry a lot of books in their person and don't want to invest in eBooks at the same time. In a digital world where users prefer eBook or mobile reading, something like this could be a godsend, especially given the wide range of content on offer for the customers.

We must remember however that Kindle Unlimited was found lacking some of the blockbuster titles, so this might not be the preferred choice for everybody. Then again, it's very likely that Amazon India will have a different collection of books compared to the American Kindle store.

For now, we're going to treat this as a rumor until Amazon has more information to offer.
