Game-based learning company SplashLearn has raised $18 million in Series C funding, led by Owl Ventures and existing investor Accel.

Founded in 2010 by four IIT-Kharagpur alumni, SplashLearn offers Math for Pre-K to Class 5 and reading for Pre-K to Class 2. It adapts to each child’s learning ability and helps them master skills at their own pace, the company said.

SplashLearn said it has 40 million registered users from over 150 countries.

The company employs 230 people at its Gurugram headquarters and plans to double the team this year.

With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, SplashLearn saw an almost 3x surge in adoption and added more than 10 million students. The bulk of the company’s user base is in the United States -- used in 30% of US schools -- followed by UK and Australia.

India is its fifth-largest market in terms of users.

The company plans to utilise the funds to scale up its recently launched tutoring vertical and further strengthen the research and development department.

“Our goal is to make the largest learning global consumer business out of India,” Arpit Jain, co-founder and CEO, told ET.

Commenting on the fundraise, Amit A Patel, managing director, Owl Ventures said, “SplashLearn is well poised to bring about a distinct change in the digital learning space with its unique blend of scientifically designed curriculum and its pedagogical methods with global appeal.”
