General Intuition raises $133.7 million from Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, Raine

General Intuition, a startup building foundational models and general agents, raised $133.7 million in a seed round on Thursday, which saw participation from Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, and Raine.

Founded by a group of researchers, infrastructure experts, and video processing specialists such as Adam Jelley, Anthony Hu, and Brianna K Martin, among others, it aims to improve gameplay with interactive video data.

The research lab dedicated to gaming is built on the dataset of Medal, the fastest-growing platform for gaming moments (AI-driven personalised events in a game for a player) <added>. per the startup's website.


It collects two billion video clips from Medal each year, uploaded by 10 million users every month, across tens of thousands of games, surpassing rivals Twitch or YouTube when it comes to training its agents, TechCrunch reported on October 16.

The development stems from the need to fulfil the requirement for large-scale interaction data to build agents for "environments that require deep spatial and temporal reasoning,” the company said in a post on X.


The New York-based startup has also started hiring in San Francisco and London in a move to expand its operations beyond NYC and Geneva.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT parent OpenAI has attempted to acquire Medal for $500 million, according to a report by The Information. But neither company has spoken about the terms of the deal yet.

In an interview with TechCrunch, the video-focused AI startup revealed its focus on avoiding copyright issues, unlike its peers like DeepMind and World Labs, which are selling their models, Genie and Marble, respectively, for training agents and content creation.
