Bangalore-based community management startup Threado has raised $3.1 million (Rs 24.76 crore) in funding led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India. Gemba Capital, Speciale Invest, and PointOne Capital also participated in the funding.

Prominent angel investors, including Deepinder Goyal, founder & chief executive officer (CEO) of Zomato, Pankaj Chaddah, cofounder of Mindhouse and Zomato, Krish Subramanian, and Rajaraman Santhanam, cofounders of Chargebee, and others invested in the startup.

Threado was founded in 2020 by Pramod Rao, a former senior executive at Zomato, and Abhishek Nalin.

The company plans to utilise the funds to strengthen its team, double down on the product and accelerate traction in the North American market.

“In a world where products are commoditised, building a community is a core differentiator,” Rao said in a prepared statement. “But building and scaling a community is hard. Our goal is to make it super easy for businesses to engage with their customers and grow through the power of community.”

Threado provides a dashboard for businesses and creators to manage their online communities on Slack, Discord, Discourse, Twitter, or GitHub.

It claims to be used by over 200 communities such as On Deck, Glide Apps, StartUp Grind, Ultrahuman, Appsmith, Rocketlane, Scaler Academy, and FamPay, among others. Over the next 12 months, the startup plans to increase its customer base to 3,000 community-led companies.

“The role of a community has changed in today’s world and will have an impact on how organisations scale and sustain themselves. Companies embracing communities as a core way of engaging with current and potential customers, and the execution capability of the team, drove our investment in Threado,” said Piyush Kharbanda, general partner at Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, in a statement.
