The move is part of OpenAI’s partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and fintech firm Razorpay, to enable UPI payments via chat.
Earlier this week, at OpenAI’s DevDay 2025 conference, it was announced that popular global platforms such as Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow are available inside ChatGPT. BigBasket is one of the first Indian platforms to join this pilot.
“Integrating our shopping experience with ChatGPT and UPI marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of digital commerce in India,” said Preeti Jain, head of product and design at BigBasket. “We are empowering customers with a shopping journey that is seamless, intuitive, secure, and includes near-instant delivery, all inside a simple conversation.”
In FY25, BigBasket faced financial pressure with its revenue dipping as competition from quick commerce players such as Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart grew.
Per Tata Sons’ FY25 report, turnover for BigBasket’s B2C arm, Innovative Retail Concepts, declined 3% to Rs 7,673 crore, while the B2B division, Supermarket Grocery Supplies, saw a 7% drop to Rs 2,227 crore.
The losses for Innovative Retail Concepts, meanwhile, increased to Rs 1,851 crore during FY25, from Rs 1,267 crore the year before.
BigBasket, which started with time-slotted grocery deliveries, transitioned to quick commerce with its 10-minute offering, BB Now, to keep up with the shifting market.
In June, it also began trialling 10-minute food deliveries, including orders from Starbucks India, a Tata and Starbucks JV, and Qmin, the food delivery platform owned by the Tata Group’s Indian Hotels Company.
