OpenAI cofounder John Schulman joins ex-CTO Mira Murati’s new startup

OpenAI cofounder John Schulman is said to be joining the secretive new startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, according to a report by Fortune. His role at Murati’s company remains unclear, and the startup is yet to provide more information.

Schulman left Anthropic last week, just five months into his tenure.

On Friday, Schulman confirmed on X that he was leaving Anthropic, stating, “I decided to go with another opportunity that I found extremely compelling.”

Schulman left OpenAI for its rival Anthropic in August last year, explaining that it was to “deepen” his focus on AI alignment and start a new chapter of his career where he can “return to hands-on technical work.”

Murati, on the other hand, left the ChatGPT maker in September last year.

In October, Murati engaged with venture capitalists to secure funding for her new AI startup, which aims to develop AI products using proprietary models, according to a Reuters report.
