Nvidia settles trademark lawsuit over 'Modulus' AI software

Nvidia has settled a trademark lawsuit brought by financial technology company Modulus Financial Engineering over Nvidia's "Modulus" AI software, according to a filing in Austin, Texas federal court.

* The companies told the court on Friday that they have resolved their dispute and asked to pause the case while they finalize their agreement

* Spokespeople for the companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment and more details on the settlement on Monday


* Modulus Financial filed the lawsuit in 2024, alleging that Nvidia's Modulus open-source software for developing AI machine-learning models would confuse consumers

* Scottsdale, Arizona-based Modulus Financial has provided financial software to companies including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Goldman Sachs since 1997, according to its website, and its lawsuit said it has "become widely recognized for its leadership and innovation - including within the field of A.I."

* Nvidia denied the allegations and said in a court filing earlier this year that it changed its software's name to "Nvidia PhysicsNeMo" in 2025

* The case had been scheduled to go to trial next month

The case is Modulus Financial Engineering Inc v. Nvidia Corp, US District Court for the Western District of Texas, No. 1:24-cv-00362.
