Microsoft rebrands Office suite to Microsoft 365 Copilot, emphasising AI

Technology giant Microsoft has reportedly retired the iconic Office brand, rebranding its productivity suite as Microsoft 365 Copilot. This move highlights the company's strategic shift towards integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across its product ecosystem.

The rebranding, first spotted by Windows Latest, includes a redesigned logo and user interface, with a stronger focus on Copilot features and an enhanced user experience. The new logo features an M365 badge atop the Copilot emblem.

Microsoft has been gradually introducing the Copilot branding, signalling its commitment to AI-powered tools and services. The rebranding coincides with a recent price increase for Microsoft 365 subscriptions, justified by the integration of Copilot into the base plan. The company had previously rebranded MS Office as Microsoft 365 Office, aligning its branding with its AI-driven focus.


AI integration

Microsoft 365 subscribers will gain access to Copilot AI capabilities in applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. These include AI-powered features for content generation, task automation and productivity enhancement.

Additionally, Microsoft is introducing the Microsoft Designer app, which leverages AI to edit and create images.

In November 2023, Microsoft rebranded Bing Chat as Copilot during the Microsoft Ignite Developers Conference, further cementing its AI-focused strategy.
