Google’s Gemini is coming to more Android devices, including smartwatches, cars and TVs

Google has announced that its AI assistant, Gemini, will soon be available on a wide range of Android devices—from smartwatches and TVs to cars, glasses, and even earbuds. This expansion was confirmed during parent Alphabet’s first-quarter earnings call.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai had then stated, “We are upgrading Google Assistant on mobile devices to Gemini, and later this year we will upgrade tablets, cars, and devices that connect your phone, such as headphones and watches.”

Wear OS smartwatches

Gemini will soon be accessible on Wear OS smartwatches, for users to interact using voice commands—without needing to pick up their phone.

Guemmy Kim, senior director of product and user experience for Android, explained in a blog that while older voice assistants often required slow and clear speech, the new generation of AI tools, such as Gemini, are much better at understanding natural, everyday speech patterns.

Google TV

Gemini is also being added to Google TV, where it will help users with things like personalised recommendations for entertainment content.

For example, users could ask for suggestions such as “a list of action movies that are age-appropriate for kids”.

“Beyond just entertainment, it can even help your kids explore their endless questions about the solar system by answering questions and pulling up the perfect YouTube video to learn more,” the blog stated.

Headsets and glasses

Google is bringing Gemini to its new Android XR platform, designed for Extended Reality (XR) devices such as headsets and smart glasses. Android XR will debut later this year through Samsung’s Project Moohan headset.

“When the first headset from Samsung launches later this year, Gemini can help you do things like plan a vacation by surrounding you with videos, maps and local tips, creating an entire itinerary in minutes,” the company claimed.

Android Auto and cars with Google

In the coming months, Gemini is coming to all Android Auto cars, followed by vehicles with Google built in. The rollout will take place in all countries where Google's AI is already available and will support more than 40 languages.

The company claimed that through the Gemini upgrade, users will be able to have natural conversations instead of giving robotic commands.

“For example, Gemini can find you a charging station on the way to the post office that’s also near a park, so that you can go for a walk before your errands while your car is charging,” the blog noted.
