Gemini can now call businesses for you: Unboxing Google’s new AI feature

Google has announced a Call for Me feature in the Gemini app on the phone, and will be rolling out an early preview of this over the next couple of weeks in the US.

Here’s a look at what all Google claims it can do for users.

What does Call for Me do?


Google claims it can call a business, find out the working hours of a store, e.g., or check prices. Google made a community announcement regarding this last Thursday.

Google says Gemini can not only introduce itself and navigate an automated menu, but also handle more involved requests such as rescheduling an appointment, asking if a product is in stock, and waiting on hold. Gemini will also be able to share personal information that you have approved.

Users can watch how the call proceeds via a live transcript of the conversation and take over at any time. Call for Me will make calls directly from your phone using your phone number.

Who can use this feature?

Still in its experimental stage, the feature is limited for now to users aged 18 or above in the US who have a Pixel 11 series device and a paid Gemini subscription. There are also daily limits on how many calls can be made, and for now it can only call US phone numbers.

Google said it's starting this experiment on a small scale because "real-world conversations are nuanced," and it needs time to get the feature right before rolling it out more widely.
