OpenAI on Tuesday said its coding assistant Codex now has over 4 million weekly developers. The Sam Altman-led artificial intelligence company added 1 million users in two weeks after reporting a 3 million count earlier this month.

This comes at a time when OpenAI is positioning Codex as an enterprise-grade engineering platform, going beyond its origins as a developer tool.

While initial adoption was driven by individual developers, the company revealed that enterprises are also increasingly using Codex across core workflows. The coding assistant is now being used for tasks such as browser-based work, image generation, and turning information into outputs such as briefs, plans, and follow-ups.

Tieups with systems integrators

OpenAI plans to deepen Codex’s enterprise integration, after launching Codex Labs, a hands-on program where its Codex experts work directly with organisations.

Through workshops and working sessions, companies learn how to integrate Codex into workflows and scale from experimentation to repeatable deployment, with a focus on delivering measurable value quickly.

Under this initiative, OpenAI’s experts will provide workflow-specific demos, along with hands-on implementation guidance for developers, reviewers, and technical leads.

As part of the initiative, OpenAI has announced partnerships with seven global systems integrators (GSIs), including Accenture, Capgemini, Cognizant, Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services.

These partners will help enterprises identify high-impact use cases, integrate Codex into existing systems, and scale deployments from pilot to production. Many are also adopting Codex internally to refine repeatable implementation models.

The AI company revealed that multinational enterprises such as Virgin Atlantic, Cisco and Notion are deploying Codex across their software development lifecycle for faster code reviews.

Aside from the above seven GSIs, OpenAI has opened its program to other organisations.
