Anthropic expands Claude AI access with Excel integration for Pro users
This move makes advanced AI tools more accessible for spreadsheet-heavy workflows. The update, which aims to streamline data analysis for professionals in finance and operations, now supports drag-and-drop of multiple files, prevents overwriting e...

"Claude now accepts multiple files via drag and drop, avoids overwriting your existing cells, and handles longer sessions with auto compaction," the company said in a post on X, along with a video demonstrating the tool.
The tool was first launched in October 2025 as a research preview. It integrates Anthropic's Claude models directly into Microsoft Excel. It is powered by Sonnet 4.5. It allows users to query complex multi-tab workbooks, receive cell-level citations for explanations, update assumptions without breaking formulas, debug errors, and build models from templates or uploaded files like 10-K reports.
Users can also ask to generate pivot tables, charts, variance analysis, data cleaning, and trend identification, all while maintaining a log of changes.
This comes after Anthropic's earlier file-handling innovations, such as its September update enabling Claude to create and edit Excel files natively in its apps, which became available to paid plans by October. Financial services have been a prime focus for the company.
Insatiable demand for AI and growing enterprise adoption have driven tech spending higher globally, pushing valuations of AI startups like Anthropic to record levels, even as concerns about an AI bubble loom.
