After big strides in AI, hardware next frontier for India, say experts

Artificial intelligence (AI) has seen rapid advancement in India over the past decade, resulting in a wide range of applications across land, air, and marine domains. However, India continues to remain predominantly software-driven, and it is crucial to place greater emphasis on hardware and component manufacturing in the years ahead, said Sridhar Subramanya, CEO of Outdo Mediatech, on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a panel discussion on ‘Artificial Intelligence: Emerging Technologies and Strategic Growth,’ held at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, 2025, which saw participation from several leading innovators in the sector.

Hitesh Garg, vice president of NXP Semiconductors, observed that AI technology will expand across multiple dimensions in the future, and entrepreneurs need to focus on developing devices capable of delivering a range of functions.


Kannan Babu Ramiah, chief engineer for Edge Computing at Intel, noted that the semiconductor sector has significantly transformed in recent years, and competitiveness can be enhanced through a strong focus on reliability and quality.
