Maersk appoints Charles van der Steene as MD for Indian Subcontinent, Middle East & Africa

Van der Steene, a long-time Maersk employee with extensive regional experience, will now lead the company's operations across this strategically vital and rapidly evolving trade hub.

Global logistics company A.P. Moller – Maersk has appointed Charles van der Steene as Regional Managing Director for the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa (IMEA), effective January 1, 2026.

Van der Steene has been with Maersk since 2011. He has held multiple roles across regions, including Regional CEO for IMEA at DAMCO between 2016 and 2019. DAMCO was later integrated into Maersk in 2020. He subsequently served as Head of Sales and Marketing in North America and most recently led the North America region.

In his new role, van der Steene will oversee Maersk’s operations across the IMEA region.
