High double-digit growth in engineering goods exports in September reflects the sector's resilience and global competitiveness: EEPC India

New Delhi: Reflecting resilience and competitiveness globally, India's engineering goods exports continued their growth momentum for the sixth straight month in the current fiscal.

Engineering goods exports in September 2026 stood at US$12.17 billion, up nearly 21% from US$10.06 billion in the same month last year. Cumulatively, total shipment value during the April-September period of the current fiscal year is estimated at US$70.87 billion, up from US$59.17 billion in the corresponding period last fiscal year, registering growth of 19.7%.

Pankaj Chadha, Chairman, EEPC India, said in a statement, "This high double-digit growth shows that the country's engineering sector can withstand external shocks. Trade has generally faced back-to-back disruptions and challenges over the past few years, starting with the Russia-Ukraine conflict. War in West Asia and Middle East tensions have added to the uncertainty."

Chadha added that the government's timely support to the engineering sector has helped it navigate the challenging times. Free trade deals with Australia, the UK, and Oman have also strengthened Indian industry's participation in the global supply chain.

"The free trade deal with New Zealand is set to kick in shortly and 'the mother of all deals' with the European Union is expected to come into force by the end of this fiscal. Overall, downside risks to the engineering exports sector stem from geopolitical tensions and trade route disruptions, but new trade deals would also open many more avenues for exports. Given the trend in the first six months of the fiscal year, we expect engineering goods exports to close the year on a positive note," he added.
