Engineering goods exports surge 21% in June, over five-fold rise in shipments to Oman

New Delhi: Helped by strong demand from countries such as the US, Germany, China, Singapore and Oman, India's engineering exports reached US$11.48 billion as compared to US$9.51 billion in the same month last year, thus recording a year-on-year growth of 21%.

Significantly, engineering exports to Oman surged more than five times year-on-year to US$258.97 million in June 2026. Shipments to China jumped 74% year-on-year to US$361.47 million in June this year.

In June 2026, India’s engineering exports indicated an increase in all regions. Country-wise decline was noted in Middle East countries including UAE and Saudi Arabia. However, exports to Oman increased by 420% year-on-year in June. This significant increase, just after the implementation of the India-Oman FTA, helped Indian engineering exports to remain positive in the WANA region.


On a positive note, India continued to record export growth in Turkey in June 2026, which is a positive trend given the significant decline experienced last year

The US remained the top destination for Indian engineering goods in June this year, with the total value of shipments standing at $1.95 billion.

As many as 27 out of 34 engineering panels witnessed positive year-on-year growth in exports in June this year, while seven engineering panels, including lead and products, IC engines, machinery for ATMs, cranes, lifts and winches, office equipment and prime mica, witnessed year-on-year decline.

Pankaj Chadha, Chairman, EEPC India said, in a statement, "The engineering exports sector has shown immense resilience in the wake of global uncertainty and trade flow disruptions stemming from the crisis in West Asia and the Middle East. Engineering goods exports in the last three months of the current fiscal have stayed above US$10 billion. While this shows that the sector has adapted to the changed trade scenario, there is a need to remain watchful of emerging challenges. Also, we need continuous assistance from the Government of India to continue the growth momentum."

As per the Quick Estimates of the Government, the share of engineering in India's total merchandise exports was recorded at 28.4% during June 2026.

On a cumulative basis, Indian engineering shipments stood at US$34.14 billion during the April-June quarter of 2026-27 as against US$28.91 billion during the same quarter last fiscal, with a growth of 18.09%. During this period, the share of engineering goods to total merchandise exports stood at 26.4%.

As many as 29 out of 34 engineering panels recorded growth during the April-June period of FY27, while the remaining five panels, including lead and products, IC engines, cranes, lifts and winches, office equipment and prime mica, recorded negative growth.

Regionwise analysis showed that engineering exports to all regions recorded growth during the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27 over the same quarter last fiscal. North America continued to account for the largest share of Indian engineering exports (20%), followed by the EU (17%), WANA (14%), ASEAN (11%), and North East Asia (9%).
