WudStay acquires Awesome Stays for undisclosed amount to enter 6 new markets

The acquisition marks WudStay's entry into six new markets including Varanasi, Goa, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Pune.

Budget accommodation aggregator WudStay on Wednesday said it has acquired 2-year-old Awesome Stays to strengthen its foothold in the segment in India. The acquisition marks WudStay's entry into six new markets including Varanasi, Goa, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Pune.

The deal size was undisclosed.

Wudstay was founded in April 2015 by Prafulla Mathur, and the acquisition of Awesome Stay marks the second milestone for Wudstay in the last one month. The venture was in news when it raised funding of $3 mn from Mangrove Capital Partners and Nimbuzz CEO Vikas Saxena earlier last month.

At present, Wudstay has a strong presence in Gurgaon, Manali, Delhi, Corbett, Haridwar and Jaipur where the company clocked over 3,000 nights the last month. As a part of the acquisition, Deepak Sharma, CEO of Awesome Stays and others at company will join Wudstay.

"The acquisition of Awesome Stays has come in at a time when Wudstay is aggressively looking at expanding its network across cities. Deepak has been running Awesome Stays for 2 years and his experience will help us a lot. These are exciting times for WudStay, which recently embarked on its journey to become the Gold Standard for budget hotels. We are looking at expanding to 65 new cities in the next 18 months," WudStay's CEO Prafulla Mathur said in a statement.
