BENGALURU: Ride-hailing app Uber will not be charging a service fee for the period of its pilot service uberMOTO, it said in a statement. This comes in 10 days after the Karnataka government issued a notice that ordered discontinuation of its bike-taxis in Bangalore.

"uberMOTO essentially encourages bike-pooling and will aim to help decongest city roads," the statement said. "It was launched to encourage bikers to share the cost of a ride, eliminating the need for additional permits."

Uber launched its bike-taxi service in Bangalore on March 4, amid speculation regarding the product's legality.

It will soon prepare a key findings report addressing the viability of the product to augment Bangalore's urban mobility needs, its impact on congestion and last mile connectivity.
