Paytm starts offering free wifi service to its customers
BENGALURU: Ecommerce player Paytm today started offering free wifi service, Paytm Wifi, to its customers and merchants to access their online Paytm account. This initiative has been rolled out in a metro station in Noida and will soon be available across all metro stations in Delhi.

The pilot program will allow the user to connect to ‘Paytm Wi-Fi’ for 15 minutes and access his Paytm account only. “We are building avenues for our merchants and consumers who do not have access to internet at all times to stay connected with Paytm,” said Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder of the company. “Initially we are looking at metros because they are key locations for our consumers and our merchants, especially the auto-rickshaw walas,” he added.

Last year, taxi aggregators Ola and Uber launched free wifi service for its consumers. However, this is the first time that an ecommerce company is looking at this opportunity. “This is in its beta version, so we are still learning. After a point, we can expect our consumers to buy these services,” said Sharma.

On Friday, Sharma posted a screenshot on Facebook and Twitter indicating that the device is connected to a Wi-Fi named “PayTM Wi-Fi.” The screenshot further reveals that PayTM Wi-Fi is already in service at Noida Sector – 18 under the metro station.
