BENGALURU: Jay Parikh, Facebook’s vice-president of engineering, is quitting.

Parikh said in a post on the social networking site that he was planning to leave, joining a long list of executives who have left the company over the last few years. “I have some bittersweet news to share,” he wrote in the Facebook post. “It’s time for me to step out of Facebook to explore what’s next.”

Parikh, who was instrumental in creating the data centre infrastructure on which the company builds its numerous apps and services, said he will focus on the transition for the next few months. He does not have any immediate plans thereafter, he said. Parikh joined Facebook in 2009, according to his LinkedIn profile. “A lot of what we’ve achieved over the past eleven years just wouldn’t have been possible without you,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a comment on Parikh’s post.
