AHMEDABAD: The Government e-Marketplace is preparing to introduce a host of new features, beginning with leasing and hiring services that it soft-launched recently.

The leasing and hiring services will allow government departments to avail services such as car and furniture rentals. The service, though not formally launched, was activated last week on GeM’s platform, said Radha Chauhan, chief executive officer, GeM, who was in Gandhinagar to attend the recent launch of the National Mission on GeM.

“Last week, we started leasing and hiring services on GeM, which is very much necessary for various government organisations,” she said.

The GeM platform, developed and managed by Infibeam Avenues and consortium partners, allows for online procurement of general goods and services for all government and affiliated bodies and public sector units. “We are also in the process of starting Quality Cost Based (QCB) services,” Chauhan said, adding that this feature is meant for high-quality products and services where quality will be given more weight than cost. It will be introduced in two weeks, she said.

GeM has recorded about $1.5 billion worth of transactions since it was launch 18 months ago. The aim is for the platform to reach $25 billion worth of transactions in three years and $100 billion in seven-eight years, Union commerce minister Suresh Prabhu said in a statement during the National Mission on GeM event earlier this month.
