Nasscom ties up with states to create start-up warehouses

MUMBAI: IT industry body Nasscom today tied up with Maharashtra government to create low-cost space for start-ups in Pune and the satellite city of Navi Mumbai.

The 'start-up warehouses' will be set up by Nasscom in association with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and will provide the necessary physical infrastructure at a nominal rent.

"Maharashtra and Mumbai have always been the business hub of the country. The state has always (been) known for its innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities. The state has always been very supportive for the new businesses with its friendly policy structure," Nasscom president R Chandrashekhar said.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Industries Minister Subhash Desai were present at the MoU signing ceremony held here.

The warehouses will be managed by Nasscom's 10,000 start-ups programme.

Apart from a few angel groups, the financial capital trails other pockets like Bengaluru which have a thriving start-up activity.

Pune boasts of many IT campuses, but does not have much activity on the start-ups front, in spite of being home to the best of technology schools.
