BENGALURU: Healthcare startup Lybrate has secured about Rs 64.8 crore ($10.2 million) from Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata, Tiger Global Management and Nexus Venture Partners.

Founded by former professionals from Facebook (Saurabh Arora) and Snapdeal (Rahul Narang) in 2013, the US-based firm raised $1.2 million in August last year. Lybrate offers a mobile and PCbased platform that connects doctors and patients.

“We want to connect over a billion Indians to have the ability to connect with doctors,” said Arora, chief executive officer, Lybrate. “My cousin is sitting in Barnala and has to travel to Delhi to visit the doctor, if we can save him two out of five trips by connecting to a doctor who would be able to help him, that would be great. It’s more of a preventive domain as well.”

The company hopes to use the proceeds of its first institutional round of funding to scale operations, develop products, enhance technology and for hiring. It has more than 80,000 doctors across specialisations on board and registers at least one lakh daily visits.
