BENGALURU: Education technology company Edutor Technologies has partnered with Pearson Education South Africa (Pty) Limited, the South African wing of the global education company, to provide digital textbooks to students in South Africa.

"Our experience in India shows that device based learning is a game changer and can go a long way towards making learning engaging, interactive and immersive for students," said Ram Gollamudi, chief executive officer of the Hyderabad-based startup that develops interactive learning platforms for touch devices like tablets and serves the education sector. The company raised an investment round from Hyderabad Angels in 2012.

Students of two South Africa-based private higher education establishments namely CTI Education Group (CTI) and Midrand Graduate Institute(MGI), will receive digital content on their tablets, through this partnership.

Edutor offers schools and students a digital textbook distribution platform. This platform is deployed on the Edutor Student Tab, an Android tablet and can also be used on other tablets. The content is taken from publishers like Pearson, Cambridge University Press and Orient Blackswan and can be accessed by students offline at any point of time.

"This will help students carry and access their textbooks anytime, anywhere," said Nirvani Dhevcharran, CTO of Pearson, South Africa Division.
