City cab services to be hit in Bengaluru today
BENGALURU: Cab services in the city are likely to be affected on Wednesday as several organisations including the Centre of Indian Trade Union ( Citu) and Ola, TaxiForSure, Uber Drivers and Owners Association plan to hold protests.

Citu members will gather in front of the transport department's office urging the authorities to ensure Ola and Uber follow the rule on taxi Rs 14.50 per km for non-fares which is air-conditioned cars and Rs 19.50 per km for air-conditioned cars. The protestors are unhappy over the minimum charge of Rs 6 per km fixed by app-based companies.

On the same day, drivers attached to cab aggregators -- Ola and Uber --are likely to remain off the road for a different reason. They want ride-sharing scrapped.

Tanveer Pasha, president of OTU association, said about 30,000 drivers who are part of the association would not operate in the city. "Why is the department extending the deadline when ride-sharing services are deemed illegal? Will they allow us to go scot-free if we break the law? Our demand seeking better incentives has fallen on deaf ears," he said.
