KOLKATA: A bike-taxi service has been flagged off today in the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) area.

The eastern fringes of the city—the New Town Rajarhat belt that houses most of the IT companies - will now have an easy mode of transport to commute from one place to the other with a simple app of the service provider called K Bike Taxi.

The K Bike Taxi will be available between 8 am and 8pm in the area.

A rider would be charged Rs 20 for the first two kilometre of their ride, after which Rs 5 will be charged for every kilometre. The waiting charge per second would be one paisa.

The K bike Taxi app available on android devices like any other taxi service provider will also have usual features such as a ride tracker, fare estimation and panic button.

Run by Kolkata based entrepreneur duo Imran Mustafa and Fidous Kalim, the service has 17 Honda Dreams on road and is training female drivers so that women passengers can use the service without any hesitation. The women drivers would however be driving Honda Activa.
