SIDBI, NIBM ink pact to set up MSME Centre of Excellence

NEW DELHI: Lender to small industries SIDBI today said it has entered into an agreement with National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) to set up a MSME Centre of Excellence at the latter's campus in Pune.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed on May 13, the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) said in a statement.

MSME Centre of Excellence would aim to address the lack of researched data for policy makers and other stake holders associated with this sector to facilitate availability of adequate and timely credit to MSMEs, it said.

The purpose of the Centre is to provide strong academic leadership to the field of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) financing, identify areas of research and development and lead a research programme in the field of MSME financing.

SIDBI also said that the Centre will also undertake efforts for innovating models and methods for MSME financing, knowledge dissemination based on national and international best practices in financing MSMEs among others.

For this purpose, NIBM would, inter-alia, institute a Professorial Chair for the Centre at the institute, it added.
