India’s GDP can hit double-digit growth if MSMEs grow by 10%: Rajiv Talreja, Founder, Quantum Leap

India’s GDP can reflect a three percentage point jump if MSMEs grow by just 10%, Rajiv Talreja, Founder of Bengaluru-based training company Quantum Leap said while talking about the collaboration with ASUS India in the capital on Monday. “The economy can grow once MSMEs grow. Imagine if the MSMEs that contribute Rs 108 lakh crore today to India’s economy grow by just 10%. That is a growth of Rs 10.8 lakh crore and would lead to a three percentage point jump in our GDP. A country growing at 7.7% can hit double-digit growth with three additional percentage points of growth, simply when these 9 crore businesses grow by a marginal 10%,” he said.

Talking further about the significance of MSMEs in the country, Talreja added that, as per government data, there are over 9 crore MSME businesses in the country, providing 30 crore jobs, second only to agriculture. “So, MSMEs are the second-largest job creators in the country. These 9 crore businesses contribute 31% of the country's GDP and 48% of its exports. Now, these numbers are staggering. If you see it in the context of India – an economy of Rs 346 lakh crore, out of which Rs 108 lakh crore is contributed just by MSMEs. That’s what the 31% represents,” he highlighted.

The collaboration between Talreja and ASUS seeks to redefine how Indian MSME leaders leverage business PCs, empowering them to overcome technological bottlenecks to focus entirely on sustainable enterprise growth. In this role, Talreja will spearhead efforts to strengthen the company’s “Built for Worry-Free Business” proposition through its Expert series of PCs aimed at small businesses in India.


Atleast 56% of MSMEs don’t know the difference between a regular and a business PC, with most owners unaware of business PCs as a category. This was part of the survey findings by Quantum Leap, a Bengaluru-based coaching and training company aimed at helping MSMEs scale their operations. “What’s important is that the entire business which runs on that PC - at least the foundational tool of operating the business - should have clarity for the MSME business owner. If that machine itself is not the right choice, then the entire system that runs on it collapses,” Talreja said.

Dinesh Sharma, Vice President, ASUS Commercial PC Business for India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal said that PCs are a key driver of business success and are becoming more relevant in the AI Age. “We are working to empower business owners and their organisations to ensure they get a product that is superior in every aspect. They don't have to worry about the laptop or the PC. They can focus on what matters most to them, which is their work, and that therefore results in delivering great outcomes for their businesses,” he said.

Echoing similar sentiments, Talreja added that the reason MSMEs get stuck in this game of survival is because there is no support ecosystem for them. “There is no platform to provide them with the right tools, support, exposure or education. But even though this is an underserved, under-celebrated segment, it is the fundamental backbone of not just India’s economy, but India’s family ecosystem as well. We are looking at this as a partnership of education and awareness, which will create evolution,” he stated.
