Business-to-business meet generates Rs 100 crore orders for Kerala SMEs

KOCHI: Confirmed orders worth Rs 100 crore were received by Kerala-based small and medium enterprises from domestic and foreign buyers during the three-day business-to-business meet here that ended today, officials said.

"In addition, they ( SMEs) also received enquiries for Rs 150 crore, which will be finalised after further discussions," the Department of Industries and Commerce, which organised the meet in association with various others, said.

Seven sectors of Kerala's industry - Food Processing (Food and Spices), handlooms, textiles and garments, rubber, wood based industries, ayurveda and herbal, electrical and electronics and traditional sector such as handicrafts and bamboo were showcased at the meet.

Officials said 5,220 pre-fixed buyer-seller meets were held as part of the meet that was attended by 336 buyers - 74 of them from abroad - and 150 sellers.

"The meet helped the small scale manufacturers showcase the unique products of the state before the international buyers," the department said in a release.

Encouraged by the success of the meet, the Industries department has already announced it would made an annual event from now on.
