Oxysure Home 5L targets growing demand for home oxygen therapy in India

With more patients requiring long-term respiratory support outside hospital settings, medical device companies are increasingly incorporating monitoring and safety features into home oxygen equipment. Oxysure says its Home 5L Oxygen Concentrator addresses this requirement with a 24x7 oxygen-purity display designed to provide patients and caregivers with continuous visibility into the device’s operating parameters.

The stationary oxygen concentrator provides continuous flow between 0.5 and 5 litres per minute (LPM) and has a stated oxygen purity of 93%, puls-minus 3%. Its live purity display allows the oxygen concentration to be viewed while the concentrator is in operation, rather than being available only as a product specification, says a statement.

A green Normal indicator signals normal operation, while a red Alarm indicator activates when the system detects certain operating issues, including low oxygen purity. An error code is displayed to provide information about the detected condition.

The concentrator also features flow memory, which retains the previously selected flow setting following a power interruption. The oxygen flow can be adjusted between 0.5 and 5 LPM through a conventional floating-ball flowmeter. The appropriate oxygen flow for an individual patient is determined by the treating healthcare professional.

The increasing use of oxygen equipment in homes has also brought greater attention to fire and equipment safety.

The Home 5L incorporates a fire-safety valve intended to help limit the movement of fire through the oxygen tubing if the nasal cannula comes into contact with a flame. The device also includes multiple alarm and protection mechanisms.

Its oxygen-generation system uses lithium sieve beds along with a multi-stage filtration system.

These features are intended to complement, rather than replace, standard oxygen-safety practices. Oxygen equipment needs to be kept away from smoking, open flames, candles and other potential ignition sources.

The Home 5L is designed primarily for stationary use within the home rather than as a portable, battery-operated oxygen system. The unit weighs about 13.9 kg and includes wheels and a handle to facilitate movement between rooms.

The device supports continuous oxygen delivery and also incorporates an inbuilt nebuliser facility. It comes with a three-year warranty.

For patients using oxygen concentrators over extended periods, equipment maintenance and timely servicing remain important components of home oxygen therapy. Monitoring features can provide operating information, but they do not replace periodic maintenance or clinical supervision.
