ICECD-ILO to nurture 100 entrepreneurs from Ahmedabad slums
AHMEDABAD: Around 100 potential entrepreneurs from Ahmedabad's slum pockets will get nurtured to realize socio-economic empowerment under a project by the International Labour Organisation ( ILO) and International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development ( ICECD) project. The SIYB ( Start and Improve Your Business) programme kicks off in Ahmedabad's slums in October.

The select individuals with minimal or no education will have access to new economic opportunities and chisel their entrepreneur skills. ILO-ICECD will implement the project in the city from October across Amraiwadi, Anandnagar, Gokulnagar and Chandlodia area.

Currently, residents of these pockets are engaged in traditional business. ICECD aims to create small groups of people and engage them in the sectors like chappalmaking (footwear), garments and handicrafts, food products, et al.

The same project will be implemented for two years in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and Gujarat, followed by West Bengal and Karnataka in phase II.
