The quest for benchmark indices to hit fresh lifetime high got extended on Friday, as flaring up of Korea tensions hit investor sentiment. Yet the domestic market staged a smart recovery to settle flat.
The country's forex reserves surged by USD 2.604 billion to reach an all-time high of USD 400.726 billion in the week ended September 8 on account of rise in foreign currency assets, RBI data showed today.
The Rs 5,700 crore initial public offer (IPO) of ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company, first by non-life private sector insurer, got subscribed 0.27 per cent on the first day of offer on Friday.

Stock market in India opened the day on a tepid note in the wake of negative global cues. A late recovery pushed benchmark indices to finally close the day near the flat line. While the IT, auto, metals and media indices posted gains, the healthcare and FMCG indices traded with losses.
IPO of construction firm Capacit'e Infraprojects saw bumper demand as the issue got subscribed 181.89 times till 4.15 pm on the last day of the three-day bidding process on Friday. The markets again rallied intraday to come in touching distance with all time highs, the initial gap down was largely attributed to Geo political tensions around North Korea. News of Aircel bankruptcy around closing again drove the markets slightly lower. We continue to hold a short term bearish and a long term bullish strategy on the markets. We would advise refraining from taking big bets on the long side right now.

The news of another missile test by the North Korea led a feeble start but buying in select index majors pared losses completely in the middle. Global cues are currently dictating our market trend and it becomes difficult to trade in such scenario due to excessive volatility. We suggest preferring hedged positions and advise traders to stay with the performers like private banking, auto, metal and NBFC counters.
AIRCEL LIKELY TO FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY; RCOM CRACKS 7%
Shares of Reliance Communications cracked over 7 per cent amid reports RCom-Aircel merger was unlikely and that Aircel will file for bankruptcy under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy code. Following the report, several lenders to Aircel too came under pressure.

DR REDDY'S DECLINES ON PATENT LAWSUITS
Dr Reddy's Laboratories dropped 1.8 to Rs 2,207.75 on BSE after report suggested that Indivior Plc., the UK drug firm has filed patent lawsuits against the company, Teva and Mylan.
According to the data available with Zebpay, the value of the currency in India has declined from Rs 3,40,116 per unit on September 2 to hit a low of Rs 2,29,417 on September 15, indicating a fall of 48 per cent in less than two weeks.
Sterling recorded its best day against the dollar since April on Thursday, after the BoE warned it might raise interest rates for the first time in more than a decade in the "coming months".

BHARATI DEFENCE, PSL JUMP UP TO 20%
Shares of Lypsa Gems & Jewellery (up 20 per cent), MIRC Electronics (up 20 per cent), Ador Welding (up 19.99 per cent) and Bharati Defence and Infrastructure (up 19.55 per cent) zoomed up to 20 per cent in Friday's's trade. Stocks such as PSL Limited (up 18.99 per cent), BSL Limited (up 17.61 per cent), Shekhawati Poly-Yarn (up 16.67 per cent), Graphite India (up 15.69 per cent) and BF Investment (up 15.65 per cent) surged over 15 per cent. Benchmark indices continued trading in the negative zone as selling in metal, pharma, oil & gas and bank stocks weighed on.

CYRUS INVESTMENTS TO OPPOSE TATA SONS PLAN
In a major development, investment firms of the Shapoorji Pallonji family Cyrus Investments in a letter opposed Tata Sons proposal to become a private company. Tata Sons wishes to amend its memorandum of association and articles of association to convert itself from a public limited company to a private limited one, a media reported suggested. Tata Sons will be seeking shareholders nod for the same at Annual General meeting (AGM) on September 21 and, according to reports, Cyrus Investments would be opposing to the proposal.

Nifty Pharma index emerged as the top loser among sectoral indices during the initial hours of trade on Friday. BITCOIN PLUNGES 45% IN SEPTEMBER
Bitcoin has just undergone through one of its toughest phases in 2017 as the digital currency has plunged over 45 per cent in September. According to the data available with Zebpay, the value of currency decline from Rs 3,40,116 per bitcoin on September 2 to a low of Rs 2,29,417 on September 15, indicating a downfall of 48 per cent during the same period. Gold and silver were trading flat in morning trade on Friday on account of lacklustre demand of precious metals by jewellers, industries and retailers. The flaring up of tensions in Korean peninsula could not generate safe haven buying on the counters. MCX Gold was 0.06 per cent down at Rs 29992 around 10.25 am (IST), while MCX Silver was down 0.04 per cent at Rs 41,122 per 1 kg.

Shares of Ujaas Energy surged as much as 10 per cent after the company announced that it has won various contracts. The scrip was trading 7.60 per cent up at Rs 26.20 around 10 am (IST). Shares of Max Financial Services surged as much as 4.88 per cent in early trade amid reports that 2.3 per cent of equity exchanged hands in two block deals at Rs 602-602.50 per share on BSE. TATA TELE SLUMPS 9% AS GROUP MULLS WINDING DOWN OF BIZ
Shares of Tata Tele (Maharashtra) tumbled 9 per cent in Friday's trade after Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran said he is evaluating the option of winding down the mobile services business, after attempts to sell the beleaguered unit failed. If the group goes ahead with its plan, it will be the first major Tata unit to be closed down in its 149-year-old history. ASIAN SHARES TEPID
In signs that markets are showing signs of becoming conditioned to actions from North Korea, equities in Tokyo traded sideways on Friday morning after North Korea launched another missile over Japan on Friday morning.
