CLOSING BELL: SENSEX SEES BIGGEST FALL IN 4 MONTHS
BSE Sensex ended the session 364 points or 1.13 per cent down at 31,710.99, its biggest fall in 4 months - since March 22, 2017. In the past 52-weeks, Sensex had its steepest fall of 385.1 points on November 21, 2016. Nifty50 was 87 points or 0.88 percent lower at 9,829 at day's close. FMCG index was the biggest sectoral loser, plunging up to 7 per cent in trade.

SENSEX EXTENDS FALL, CRACKS NEARLY 400 POINTS
ITC contributes 371 points to Sensex fall, RIL 56 points.

The pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.3 per cent. The basic resources sector fell more than 1 per cent while banks were down 0.5 per cent.

Shares of Thangamayil Jewellery, Tide Water Oil (India), Tata Elxsi, IndusInd Bank and SKF India were trading in red on turning ex-dividend on Tuesday. Thangamayil Jewellery slipped over 4 per cent as the stock turned ex-dividend on Monday for dividend of Rs 2 per share for the year ended March 31, 2017.
A steep 15 per cent drop in the ITC shares in morning trade on Tuesday weighed heavy on its largest shareholder, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which suffered a notional loss of over Rs 7,000 crore within the first half-an-hour. LIC held 16.29 per cent in the cigarette maker as of June 30, 2017.

GAIL SHARES FALL ON
ANOTHER PROBE REGARDING GSA
Shares of GAIL declined in Tuesday's trade after the CCI ordered a fresh investigation against state-owned company for alleged abuse of dominant position with regard to supply of natural gas. Following the development, the stock plunged 1.92 per cent to Rs 377.55 on BSE.
Sectorwise, the BSE FMCG and BSE Consumer Durables index were down 6.65 per cent and 0.68 per cent, respectively, in early trade. RELIANCE INDUSTRIES' SHARES FALL ON ARBITRATION PENALTY
Shares of Reliance Industries declined in Tuesday's trade after the government ordered the company along with Shell and ONGC to pay a combined $3 billion in penalty following an arbitration award in the Panna Mukta Tapti (PMT) oil field dispute that went in favour of the government, according to people familiar with the matter.

FMCG INDEX CRACKS 7% IN EARLY TRADE; ITC, DABUR DOWN
Nifty FMCG index fell as much as 7 per cent in Tuesday's early trade as the heavyweight ITC cracked 15 per cent after the GST Council on Monday raised the cess on cigarettes. ITC on Monday closed 3.4 per cent down at Rs 325.75 on reports of likely increase in cess on cigarettes.

US STOCKS DECLINED
The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 0.13 points to 2,459.14, the Dow Jones industrial average shed 8.02 points to 21,629.72 while the Nasdaq composite gained 1.97 points to 6,314.43. The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks rose 2.79 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,431.60.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down 0.2 per cent, a day after scaling its loftiest levels since April 2015. Japan's Nikkei stock index dipped 0.4 per cent in early deals, as markets resumed trading after a public holiday on Monday and caught up to a stronger yen.

NIFTY TECHNICAL CHARTS
The index made a Small Bull Candle on the day chart, which resembled a Doji pattern, suggesting indecisive among market participants. SENSEX ON MONDAY
The BSE Sensex ended the day 54 points up at 32,074.78 while the Nifty50 closed 30 points up at an all-time high of 9,915.95. This was the fresh lifetime highs for both the indices. For the fifth time in last six sessions, the domestic equity market on Monday hit fresh lifetime highs, with the NSE Nifty50 closing above the 9,900 mark for the first time ever.
