CLOSING BELL: SENSEX, NIFTY50 HIT LIFETIME HIGH AGAIN

BSE Sensex ended the day 57 points higher at 31,804.82 with Hindustan Uniliver (up 2.04 per cent), ONGC (up 1.59 per cent), SBI (up 1.34 per cent) aiding the gains. Energy stocks such as Chennai petroleum Corporation (up 9.16 per cent) and Hindustan Petroleum (up 5.07 per cent) hogged the limelight as crude prices increased. BSE Energy closed the session at 3,593.58, up 1.24 per cent.

BAJAJ CORP Q1 NET PROFIT JUMPS 5% YOY TO RS 55 CRORE

FMCG firm Bajaj Corp on Wednesday reported 5.30 per cent year-on-year rise in net profit at Rs 54.97 crore against Rs 52.20 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. However, revenue of the company declined by 7.17 per cent to Rs 197.43 crore during the quarter under review.

ONGC, HPCL JUMP 3% ON MERGER ANNOUNCEMENT

Shares of ONGC and HPCL advanced 3 per cent each in Wednesday's trade on reports that the proposed ONGC-HPCL deal will be completed by the end of FY18. Following the development, the stock advanced 2.96 per cent to Rs 164.75 on BSE. It opened at Rs 296 and touched an intraday high and low of Rs 296 and Rs 290.50 respectively, in trade so far. Meanwhile, shares of HPCL gained 2.65 per cent to Rs 351.

RUPEE OPENS 8 PAISE HIGHER AGAINST US DOLLAR AT 64.51

The rupee on Wednesday opened 8 paise up at 64.51 against dollar on account of selling of American currency by banks and exporters. The local currency on Tuesday closed 6 paise down at 64.59 against dollar. The RBI, meanwhile, fixed the reference rate for the dollar at 64.5025 and for the euro at 73.4361.

BSE MARKET CAP

Total market valuation of all listed companies on BSE touched a record high of Rs 130 lakh crore on Tuesday as stocks rallied, but it later slipped below this level on late selloff. At close of trade, the m-cap stood at Rs 1,29,29,787 crore. There are over 5,200 companies listed on BSE, of which over 2,878 are traded actively.

CRUDE OIL EXTENDS GAIN

Oil prices on Wednesday extended gains from the previous day as the U.S. government cut its crude production outlook for next year and as fuel inventories plunged. Brent crude futures rose 65 cents, or 1.4 percent to $48.17 per barrel, while WTI crude futures were at $45.77 per barrel, up 73 cents, or 1.6 percent. Both settled about 1.4 per cent higher on Tuesday.

SENSEX ON TUESDAY

Domestic equity indices were on an unstoppable rally on Tuesday with the Sensex and Nifty scaling to fresh record highs for the second consecutive day in a row. The Nifty50 gained 15 points to end the day at 9,786. BSE Sensex gained 31 points to close at a lifetime high of 31,747. Infosys was the biggest contributor, adding over 35 points to the index, while TCS followed with 22 points.
