Shares of Religare (down 20 per cent), KSK Energy Ventures (down 6.09 per cent), Lanco Infratech (down 5.00 per cent), Unitech (down 4.94 per cent), Rain Industries (down 4.55 per cent) and JMT Auto (down 4 per cent) plunged over 4 per cent despite an upbeat market, propelled by auto and IT stocks. After a strong start in the early trade, benchmark indices pared most gains.

Shares of GTL Infra (up 19 per cent), Housing & Urban Development Corporation (up 12.66 per cent), Alicon Castalloy (up 11.65 per cent) and Uttam Value Steel (up 10 per cent) surged over 10 per cent on NSE in Tuesday's trade. Benchmark indices Nifty50 and Sensex remained firm after hitting all time high at 9,830.05 and 31,885.11 respectively.

RUPEE OPENS 8 PAISE HIGHER AGAINST US DOLLAR AT 64.45

The rupee opened 8 paise higher at 64.45 against dollar on sustained selling of dollars by exporters amid a record rally in domestic equities. According to Angel Broking, USDINR spot is likely to appreciate in Tuesday’s trade. The local currency on Monday settled 7 paise up at 64.53 against the US currency.

OPENING BELL: SENSEX, NIFTY AT RECORD HIGH

Benchmark indices kicked off the session on Tuesday making fresh all time highs, even as most Asian markets remained largely mixed. The gains were led by index heavyweights Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, SBI and ICICI Bank. The BSE Sensex hit a record high of 31,802.03 in opening trade and, at 9.30 am, it was trading 62.91 points, or 0.20 per cent, higher at 31,778.55. The Nifty 50 could not kiss the 9800 mark, but made a all-time high of 9799.35 in early trade. The index was later trading 23 points, or 0.24 per cent higher at 9,794.50.

DOLLAR CLIMBS AGAINST PEER CURRENCIES

The dollar's advance against its major peers slowed early on Tuesday as a rise in sovereign bond yields paused, with investors awaiting comments from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen for fresh cues on policy direction. The dollar was 0.1 per cent higher at 114.160 yen following a rise to a two-month high of 114.300 overnight.

CRUDE OIL RISES

Oil prices edged up early on Tuesday, lifted in part by a strong demand outlook for the coming weeks, but overall market conditions remain weak on the back of ample supplies and a more subdued outlook for long-term demand. Brent crude futures were at $47.13 per barrel, up 25 cents, or 0.5 per cent, from their last close. US WTI crude futures were at $44.64 per barrel, up 24 cents, or 0.5 per cent.

RUPEE STRONGER ON MONDAY

The Indian rupee on Monday strengthened marginally against the US dollar tracking gains in the local equity and Asian currencies markets. The domestic currency closed at 64.53 a dollar, up 0.09% from its Friday’s close of 64.60. It opened at 64.56 a dollar and touched a high and a low of 64.48 and 64.58 respectively.
