NVS-03 is the third iteration in the next generation navigation satellite system designed to enhance the existing IRNSS services.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced the launch of its navigation satellite NVS-03 aboard the GSLV rocket on October 30, PTI reported, citing the space agency, on Wednesday.

The satellite is the third iteration in the next generation navigation satellite system, which was meant to provide continuity of navigation services for the IRNSS (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System) series.

It is equipped with an indigenous atomic clock, in addition to procured atomic clocks.

Further, it also incorporates the L1 band alongside the existing L5 and S bands, providing positioning services across India and up to 1,500km beyond its geopolitical border.

The GSLV-F18, carrying the NVS-03 is scheduled to launch on October 30, 2026, at 11:51 pm from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

According to ISRO, five second generation NavIC satellites — NVS-01, NVS-02, NVS-03, NVS-04 and NVS-05 — are planned to augment the existing NavIC constellation and ensure continuity of services with enhanced capabilities. The NVS series also incorporates signals in the L1 frequency band to expand the system’s services.
