- Rajendra Agarwal along with his brothers started his own venture -- Macleods Pharmaceuticals -- in 1986. The company was formed with an aim to produce anti-tuberculosis and anti-infective drugs
- The company was officially incorporated as Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd. on June 05, 1989, and is headquartered in Mumbai
- As the Indian pharmaceuticals export business grew, the company became a global supplier of first-line and second-line Anti-TB drugs
- In 2000, Macleods opened an R&D centre in Mumbai to facilitate chemical research, formulation development, analytical research and bioequivalence study
- With time, Agarwal’s company diversified its product offerings to include drugs for malaria and HIV and also moved into high-growth segments such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, NSAIDs, anti-arthritis, anti-osteoporotic, gynaecology, orthopaedics, respiratory and oncology
- The company employs over 10,000 professionals across the globe and has presence in around 80 countries, including in the regions of Southeast Asia, Asia Pacific, Africa, North America, EU and Latin America
- Agarwal’s firm has also been credited for being the first in the world to introduce formulations such as Forecox, Zithrox, Trenaxa MF and Cefolac
- Currently, Macleods is one of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in India, and Agarwal is one of the richest persons in the country
