Finest art in practice
Fulfilling one's real desires ( bhukti, kama), for being 'set free' ( mukti), fixing one's mind prayerfully on his objective and divining, in the state of relaxation and harmony, 'truths' of matters for doing only the right things effectively in the right time and thus really landing on avenues to bhukti - these all are accepted axioms, no doubt.

But then, how to actually get to this state?

The crux lies in getting started with those pursuits, which are under one's direct and immediate control - those involving not the mind, over which control is difficult, but on simple issues such as those concerning particular observances ( yama and niyama ) and also on physical activities and disciplines ( asana and pranayama or any form of joyful exercises for body and mind).

Without involving religions or faiths, these, enumerated by sage Patanjali, are the first four prescriptions of ashtanga yoga, applicable to the agnostics, as well as to the religious.

Add to the above a right lifestyle, right eating and right sleeping, with awareness, besides right perceptions, basing on your own analysis, wisdom and experience.

With these, you intuit 'truths' concerning yourself - 'truths' on what to do and also what to desist from.

In this state, decisions taken and paths traversed would all lead you on to opportunities and relationships where things 'fall in place'.

This, verily, is 'waking up' to make your dreams come true for obtaining your bhukti. Other finer attainments naturally follow. This, indeed, is, making an art of living, in real practice!
