'Doing' and 'Being'
True spirituality is reflected in effectiveness and inner clarity, obtained through isolating the ‘enemies within’ . This, verily, is the objective of it all. Dr Nirmal Chordia, an eminent and holistic acupressure healer of Chennai, summed up the entire issue through his explanation of the concepts of and difference between ‘doing’ and ‘being’.

By ‘doing’ , one merely is occupied, where one activity may not only be inconsistent with the other, but even be militating against it. This person, thus, is like a ‘rolling stone’ , hardly gathering anything , as he does not ever stop to analyse, reflect and synthesise , to establish himself on anything stable. Dr Chordia also explained that, in contrast, one who is clear and authentic realises his true wants and needs.

Established thus in his own true self, he makes a statement, through the precision, which marks all that he issues forth. He has ‘arrived’ , established in ‘being’ what he is made out for, divining his work upon this earth. This elaboration of Dr Chordia also helps to realise, in practice, the concept of ‘skill in action’ (karmasu koushalam ). Obtaining this, all that one issues forth would not merely be powerful, but also receptive and welcome, because the clarity and peace within reflect all over.

This is ‘being’ something, leading to this skilful ‘action’, which would serve as a beacon for all. On the other hand, ‘doing’ one thing after another, one possibly in conflict with the other, results in mere ‘activities’ (no matter what or why), leading oneself and others nowhere!
