Why be a fish out of water?

A fish out of water will always be restless no matter what we facilitate it with. The Bhagwad Gita explains that we are spiritual beings and, therefore, the spiritual environment is our natural environment. The more we stay connected to our natural environment, the less restless we shall be.

When people lack spiritual knowledge, they naturally live for worldly goals. Their sense of identity and self-worth comes from the pursuit and achievement of materialistic aims such as wealth, sensual pleasure, possessions and position.

This narrow-minded definition of success in terms of material achievements lies at the root of suicidal thought. Why? Because people pursuing such goals will sooner or later be confronted with a situation where they will fail to gain. Destroying one's very existence appears to be the only escape.

Spiritual practices like chanting... 'Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare', hearing from or studying the scriptures such as the Bhagwad Gita and Ramayan, meditating on the Lord's beautiful form, and associating with saintly people can help us remain in a positive state of mind. This will save us from self-destructive strategies such as suicide.
