Why arguing may not help
Arguments often generate more heat than light, hindering the pursuit of truth. Ego fuels discussions, preventing attentive listening and distorting facts with emotions. Silence serves as the best remedy to effectively stop unproductive arguments. ...
Ego is the basic emotion in all arguments. We want to prove that we are superior in knowledge and understanding of the subject compared to others. In any conversation, we tend to jump into a discussion by picking up threads from what others have said. Our ego prompts us to do so. Very few people have the courage to say, 'Sorry, I do not know much about this subject to give my opinion.'
Arguments do not help anyone for more than one reason. First, for any communication to take place, attentive listening must happen. In arguments, no one is listening; both are only talking. Second, when facts are mixed with emotions such as ego, they are always distorted. Hence, nothing is achieved. Silence is the best remedy to put a stop to arguments.
Sometimes, even enlightened people make mistakes. They know the philosophy of life, and they think it is important to correct others' misconceptions. However, it is not easy to make anyone wiser so quickly. One can share wisdom only with those who want to change themselves.
