Three states
Our mental state is influenced by the values we embrace, ranging from material pursuits to transcendental devotion. The material mind focuses on worldly achievements and sensory pleasures, while the elevated mind seeks growth and meaning. Ultimate...
The material mind is engrossed in worldly pursuits: living, learning, working, earning and acquiring. It finds happiness in possessions, status and sensory pleasures - what many consider a 'normal life'. Here, the Self is at the centre of existence, seeking to fulfil needs and desires. It is motivated by external outcomes and transient satisfactions.
The elevated mind rises above material concerns, seeking quality, growth and meaning. A student aspiring to study at Harvard or Stanford may not be chasing prestige, but rather pursuing knowledge, scientific inquiry and high-value service to society.
Rooted in devotion, the transcendental mind chants the name of Krishn, sings his glories and dwells in his presence. Material desires begin to dissolve. The mind becomes sattvic, characterised by detachment, forgiveness, empathy, altruism and generosity. Thoughts centre around Krishn, guiding one beyond worldly entanglements into spiritual illumination.
Climbing from the material to the elevated, and finally to the transcendental mind, one discovers peace, clarity and bliss. Each rung on this ladder expands one's vision, culminating in residence at the abode of Krishn.
