Technological fasting involves limiting the use of mobile devices and observing a nightly digital detox from 10 pm to 6 am. Reading on mobiles and browsing can be replaced by traditional reading of books. It includes being passionate about doing traditional works such as gardening, painting, playing music on instruments, or writing our memories without relying too much on technology. Engaging in these activities can foster a deeper connection to ourselves and our surroundings. We improve our mental health and cultivate our creativity with practical experiences, enjoying life in a more meaningful way. The purpose is not punishment but recovery of time, attention, silence, presence and creativity.
It also means returning to activities in which the hands, senses and imagination participate together. Taking long walks and observing nature around is an excellent antidote to our smartphones and their notifications constantly clamouring for our attention.
