Real Devotion

Children, 99% of people who visit temples and pray only do so to fulfil their material desires. Their mind is not actually devoted to God. God is a means to fulfil their material desires. We cannot say that this is real devotion. True devotees pray, 'O God, I have many desires, but You alone know what's best for me. Thus, let your will prevail.' The desires of such people will certainly be fulfilled.

Once there were two businessmen who were neighbours. One of them faced a huge loss in his company. He grew weary, fell into doldrums and stopped eating. He shut himself away from the world in his room and stopped talking to anyone. He was put on medication. But, still, he did not get better. Then, one day, his son burst into his room. 'Poppa! Did you hear the news? The ship carrying our neighbour's goods from abroad sank!' As soon as the man heard this, he jumped from his bed with great enthusiasm. He called his wife and said, 'Bring me something to eat!'

As soon as he heard his rival had met with a failure, his depression vanished. This is how we have become today: we find joy in the sorrow of others.


Children, where the heart melts upon seeing the suffering of others, when we are filled with compassion, then God will shower his grace.
