That no man is an island, is an established fact. No one can remain without connecting with another for very long. To be able to reach out requires some warmth. "Warm-heartedness brings inner peace. Warm-heartedness is the basis of our survival. Scientists say human beings are social animals. No individual can survive without another. Being compassionate is warm-heartedness," says the Dalai Lama. Human beings - as do other animals - need affection. "All major religious traditions carry the message of love, loving kindness and compassion. The sense of brotherhood and sisterhood is humanity. Anger and anxiety disturb sleep. Our education system should teach how to cultivate and achieve peace of mind. Humanity really needs warm-heartedness; it is the basis of our survival," says the monk.

Governments are different than individuals. A government does not feel, but people do.That is why there are cultural exchanges between two countries. If there is people-to-people contact, there is less likelihood of conflict and tension. But when a relationship is dictated by government, then it turns cold and materialistic. Governments wage wars.Left to people, there is more likelihood of camaraderie, warmth, loving kindness and compassion. There is the possibility of evolving civilisational values, leading to greater understanding, brotherhood and peace.
