We work not only to produce results but to improve ourselves, to learn, grow and attain fulfilment. We try to be detached from results to become attached to something better than results: self-enrichment. When we choose to do a fulfilling activity, and invest our heart and soul into it, whether we attain an attention-attracting result or not, we will be happy. But if we are more result-oriented, sometimes we become so obsessed with the results that by hook or by crook, we want to attain results.

As long as we have a positive mindset, we can always strive for a better result next time. We cannot take charge of producing impressive results, but we need to take charge of our inner motivation and inspiration to do something worthwhile. If we become demotivated by one failure and, thus, develop a negative mindset, we can't work for our betterment. That's why no exciting result is worth risking our motivation.

Detachment protects us from falling into negative emotions when facing setbacks in life. Krishn recommends in the Bhagwad Gita that we work with detachment. Equipped with detachment, we can stay steady amidst disappointments, learn what we can from the situations and move on. If we become demotivated by unpleasant results, then we miss opportunity to rejoice in the sincere effort we put into our work. We need to also learn to enjoy the journey while reaching our destination.
